Marriage License Requirements

When applying for a marriage license in Rhode Island you must apply in person at one of the city or town offices (see below on where to apply). You must sign the license in the presence of the city or town clerk.

• You must bring your birth certificate, valid photo ID as well as $24 for the cost of the  marriage license in cash or check form.
  
• If previously married you must bring the official decree of divorce or death certificate of previous spouse.
  
•  Once you obtain your marriage license it is valid for three (3) months and the ceremony must take place where the marriage license is valid.
